Q: What is a textured photograph?

A: This is the biggest question I hear at my shows!  Simply put, they are photographs with textured images digitally layered over them.

Q: How do you create the textures?

A:  The textures are created by taking photographs of textured objects, such as tree bark, rocks, cracked concrete, and the like.  I then blend several of those images together so they are not identifiable.  I follow up by removing unwanted or distracting elements before I feel each texture is ready to be used over a photograph.

Sometimes I will paint my own textured surfaces and photograph them as a starting point for a new texture.

Q: How many textures are on each image?

A: The majority of my work contains three to six textures.
