The First Step is Admitting You Have a Problem

My husband thinks the first post of a new blog is the easiest.  Well, sure…he’s a writer!  He loves to write and he’s quite good at it.  I, on the other hand am a photographer.  I prefer to express myself  visually, it’s what I do.  But how to begin writing a blog seemed a challenge… at least to me.

I’m not really sure what to expect from this blog except that I want to share about using texture in photography.  What else comes out of it is anyone’s guess, but since writing is somewhat out of my comfort zone you can expect my ‘confessions’ to mostly be in the form of imagery, which is what it’s all about anyway.

I mean, it’s quite obvious to anyone who sees my work that I have a little ‘thing’ for using texture with my photographs.  Okay, so it’s a big thing… I admit it!    But I love how adding texture can create depth and emotion.  How it can subtly bring out detail, or be used to create the mood of the story my image is telling.  I want to draw the viewer in, to immerse them in feeling… something, anything.  If I can do that, then I’ve done my job as an artist.

Well now, that wasn’t so bad.  It seems my ‘first blog post problem’ wasn’t so bad after all.   I guess I’ll have to tell my husband he was right!  ;~D

Hi, my name is Karen and I’m a texture junkie.  Wait…what?
